Posts for: July, 2014
I recently returned from the experience of a lifetime: a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Along with 24 other American dentists, I spent the weekend of July 4-6 placing dental implants. As a group, we placed 500 dental implants into the mouths of poverty-stricken Dominicans who had lost teeth due to lack of dental care. I returned home with a renewed appreciation for my country.
The picture is of the Dominican patients cheering as we arrive at the clinic.

If we look tired, we are. We started at 8:00 in the morning and finished at 10:30 in the evening.
The 2014 Illinois Mission of Mercy Was a Success!
The 2014 Illinois Mission of Mercy was held in Peoria on June 20th and 21st, and what a successful event it was. Along with others from our own Illinois Valley, I was grateful to be one of 1,000 volunteers who came from all over the state. This year, due to other obligations, I was only able to be part of the set-up group on the 19th, and I truly missed the chair-side treatment of patients that I had experienced in the previous two Missions of Mercy. Here are the amazing results of those two days of treatment at no charge to patients:
- 1,000 volunteers
- 1,951 patient visits
- $1,072,190 in treatment performed
- 1,990 extracted teeth
- 1,265 fillings
- 765 hygiene visits
- 135 partial dentures
- 377 x-rays
- 61 root canals
